Summary: You can add a Quizmaker quiz to Articulate Engage by adding the quiz via the New Media tool in Engage and opening it in a new window.

A customer asked me yesterday if it was possible to insert a Quizmaker quiz into Engage. She referred me to this article on the forums and said that she could not follow what to do. Well, if you read the forum thread, you will see that Phil (Spectre) gave instructions to insert the quiz into a Media Tour Engage interaction but somehow the resulting interaction was not working. If you clicked on the submit button, then the whole screen faded dark and you were stuck.
I experimented with this a little yesterday and found that getting the quiz to open in a new window in Engage can work as this demo shows:
How do you do it?

First create your Quiz.

- Edit the Player Text labels in Quizmaker for your quiz and change the Finish button label (Number 14: Summary Button Bye) to something like “Click X at top to close”.

- Publish to the WEB.

Second, create your Engage interaction, choosing any interaction type you like EXCEPT the Media Tour interaction.

Choose the step where you want to link or insert your Quiz and choose Add Media as you would normally when inserting an image or media file.

Navigate to the assessment.swf in the output published files of your quiz which you created earlier.

Insert and choose to play the file in a new window and select a custom image to display your Quiz link. You can create any simple image like the one in the demo above.

Publish your Engage interaction to the WEB.

Now go to the Quizmaker published files folder and copy all the files EXCEPT the assessment.swf file AND the zoom.html file
into the Engage published files folder placing them INSIDE the engage_content folder

Launch your Engage interaction WITHOUT republishing. Your quiz will appear in a new window once you have clicked on the Flash link.

Note: The zoom function will not work in Quizmaker nor will the Finish button (which is why we changed the label before inserting it in Engage). I have not found a way of embedding the quiz in Engage. Opening the quiz in a new window seems to circumvent any interference between the two scripts.

Can you achieve the same thing but publish the quiz as a Scorm object?
Can you publish the Engage Interaction as a Scorm object instead to web.
Hi Jeff (again), Yes you should be able to do this. Again you will need to manually edit the published SCORM files. However the SCORM will only track if the Engage has been opened etc and not the results of the quiz.
I have followed your steps and the quiz never loads. Are these instructions valid for Engage 09 v2.2? I am trying to get a quiz to function within a flipbook interaction.
Okay, I tried this with the Tabs interaction (followed your steps word-for-word) and it will not allow the quiz to play. When I tried Spectre’s way with the Media Tour interaction, I could get the quiz itself to come up, but like you said, it finished into oblivion.
Perhaps the copied files should go one step up in the directory? He had us copying files into the folder up one step from the content folder.
Hi Holly, Have you set the quiz to open in a new window? When you embed media into Engage, you have three choices, open in a new window, open full slide, and have it embedded. Only opening in a new window works. The files should be copied to the same level as the engage SWF file.

Yes, I’ve now tried this twice, the first time as described above and the second time I tried to copy the files one directory up. Both times I’ve set the quiz to open in a separate window, and both times it tried, but the quiz never loaded. I just keep getting the screen that indicates it’s loading and then it never loads.
